PDP Rejects Amendment To Rivers State High Court Rules

PDP Rejects Amendment To Rivers State High Court Rules June 12, 2014 by Ehi No Comments PDP Rejects Amendment To Rivers State High Court Rules The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says the purported amendment of some sections of the Rivers State High Court rules and the hasty signing into law in the midnight by the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, is highly condemnable, a rape on democracy and a premeditated effort to lord it over the judiciary which is the third arm of government that is as important and indispensable as the executive thereby dragging it into partisan politics. PDP PDP The Chairman of PDP, Bro Felix Obuah, stated this through his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam, while reacting to the purported amendment and signing into law the Rivers State High Court rules by Gov Amaechi. The PDP avers that constitutionally, the Chief Registrar, who is not a judicial officer, cannot by a State law be vested with the authority to perform functions inextricably connected with judicial duties, such as the assignment of cases to judicial officers. The PDP observes that the amendment which seeks to make an ass of the law also seeks to unconstitutionally appoint the Chief Registrar of the StateHigh Court as the Chief Judge in the circumstances described in the said amendment. “Can a Chief Registrar therefore query a Judge who refuses to obey his instructions pursuant to the powers of the Chief Registrar under the said amendment,?” PDP demands, stressing that the amendment is in clear violation of the provisions of the 1999 constitution and an abuse of the rule of law. The PDP also seeks explanation on the situation in which the Public hearing to amend the High Court Rules was fixed to hold on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, same day members of the House of Assembly loyal to Gov Amaechi were at the High Court gate protesting, same day a purported Public Hearing was said to have taken place, same day report was submitted, same day bill passed and same day it was signed into law. The Party describes the action of the Rivers State Governor as criminal and an irresponsible way to amend a law, noting that the decision to amend this law had already been taken before the purported public hearing. While pointing out that the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi operates outside the 1999 constitution, the PDP rejects the purported amendment and urges Rivers people to distance themselves from it. The PDP would in the coming days ensure that the law does not see the light of the day.

President Jonathan Plotting To Kill Me- Kano State Governor Reveals

President Jonathan Plotting To Kill Me- Kano State Governor Reveals Timmy Campbell June 12, 2014 Naija News 35 Kwankwaso NL President Jonathan Plotting To Kill Me Kano State Governor Reveals Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Wednesday accused President Goodluck Jonathan of plotting to eliminate him, in a fresh twist to a longstanding row between the two leaders. In an exclusive interview with Premium Times Wednesday, Mr. Kwankwaso said the president was after his life and had ordered the withdrawal of half of his security details in a ploy to open him up to physical attacks. “I have told my friends, and people of Kano, Nigerians and indeed the international community to hold Jonathan responsible for whatever happens to Kwankwaso, his family or even the people of Kano state,” Mr. Kwankwaso said at Kano State governor’s lodge in Abuja. He accused the president of igniting crisis in Kano State after a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi, emerged the emir of Kano Sunday. Presidential spokespersons, Reuben Abati and Doyin Okupe, did not respond to Premium Times requests for comments Wednesday. The relationship between President Jonathan and Governor Kwankwaso, which for months had been all but warm, deteriorated in 2013 after Mr. Kwankwaso decamped from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Since then, both men have openly accused each other of corruption and ineptitude. Mr. Sanusi’s emergence, Sunday, as emir of the powerful Kano emirate, revved up the squabble. The presidency and the PDP were clearly opposed to the candidacy of the former CBN boss, who was removed from his post by Mr. Jonathan in February. Protests broke out in Kano shortly after the announcement of the new emir, as his supporters clashed with those of his opponent, the son of the former emir, Ado Bayero, who died Friday. Mr. Kwankwaso told Premium Times he has “credible information” the president instructed his supporters in Kano to unleash “mayhem” on the state. “We don’t know his intention, but, certainly the intention is not good,” he said. “We have to tell him that igniting crisis in Kano is not in the interest of anybody. We have enough crisis already in the country, and now they are funding their stooges in Kano to protest and burn government properties.” The governor accused the president of igniting crisis in Kano because the state is controlled by the APC. “Recently, we also lost an esteemed Emir in Gombe and they basically followed the same process to elect a new emir, but they did not say anything because it is a PDP state. “Now they are funding crisis in our state, I have never seen something like this,” the governor said. Siege on emir’s palace Mr. Kwankwaso said the new Kano emir is unable to move to the palace due to a police siege on the building- a development he blamed on the presidency. He accused the presidency of planning to arrest Mr. Sanusi to stop his appointment as emir. “We got information that they were planning to arrest him, so, we moved him to the Government House. I don’t want to imagine what would have happened if they succeeded,” he said. The governor said his government and the APC enjoy overwhelming support in the state and was only bidding their time before reacting to the “intimidation” from the federal government. “By the recent survey we just had and the local government election we held, we enjoy about 92 per cent support of the population, and the remaining 8 per cent are brewing and supporting crisis. There will come a time when this 92 per cent will be on the offensive, that is when they will realise that they are making a mistake. “A sitting president brewing a crisis in a state like Kano? Everybody in this country knows that it is Jonathan that is creating this problem in Kano. I am yet to know why, but posterity will clearly show what his intentions are,” he said. On the siege on the Emir’s palace, Mr. Kwankwaso said his government was just “watching and seeing how far they can go”. - See more at: http://www.naijaloaded.com.ng/2014/06/12/president-jonathan-plotting-kill-kano-state-governor-reveals/#sthash.j5TggDjj.dpuf

The President Jonathan vs Sanusi war has begun! According to a report by Sahara Reporters, police have been ordered to arrest the new Emir of Kano for ‘Fraud’. Below is how SR is reporting it.. The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge. The sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sanusi was to be arrested at his private home on Sunday night after his appointment was announced by the Kano State Governor. It would be recalled that the presidency embarked on several frantic measures to frustrate the former CBN governor’s emergence as Emir, including the premature congratulations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to one of the candidates before the choice was announced. Since becoming Emir, Mr. Sanusi has been inside the Kano State governor’s lodge, receiving visitors and undertaking traditional rites. The source also told SaharaReporters that some notable northern leaders have already warned President Jonathan to avoid such a reckless action so as to avoid setting fire to the already volatile situation in the city of Kano. It is not known if President Jonathan is favoring back channel dialogue aimed at resolving the mess. Observers point out that he has yet to offer congratulations to the new Emir despite the PDP doing so. - See more at: http://www.naijaloaded.com.ng/2014/06/12/ghen-ghen-police-ordered-arrest-new-emir-kano-sanusi-fraud/#sthash.lVUfHYmY.dpuf

About Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, The Founder Of CAC by LifeQuest(m): 11:50pm On Jun 10

About Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, The Founder Of CAC by LifeQuest(m): 11:50pm On Jun 10 1. He was the first prophet God used to lead a great revival in Nigeria after the raising of a 10 years old boy in 1930. 2. He was the first General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, a church that metamorphosed from a prayer group popularly called Egbe Aladura in Nigeria. 3. The Aladura Movement nucleated at Ijebu-Ode in 1918. Babalola was endowed with healing powers. 4. Joseph Ayodele Babalola was born of Yoruba parents, David Rotimi and Madam Marta Talabi on April 25, 1904 who belonged to the Anglican Church. 5. The family lived at Odo-Owa, a small town about ninety kilometres from Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria. His father was the Ba ba Ijo (“church father”) of the C.M.S. Church at Odo-Owa. 6. On January 18, 1914, young Babalola was taken by his brother M. 0. Rotimi, a Sunday school teacher in the C.M.S. Church at Ilofa, who later took him to Osogbo. 7. Babalola started school at Ilofa and got as far as standard five at All Saints’ School, Osogbo. However, he quit school when he decided to learn a trade and became a motor mechanic apprentice. Again, he did not continue long in this vocation before joining the Public Works Department (PWD). He was among the road workers who constructed the road from Igbara-Oke to Ilesa, working as a steam roller driver. 8. Babalola’s was a specific and personal call. Babalola’s strange experience started on the night of September 25th, 1928 when he suddenly became restless and could not sleep. This went on for a week and he had no inkling of the causes of such a strange experience. The climax came one day when he was, as usual, working on the Ilesa-Igbara-Oke road. Suddenly the steam roller’s engine stopped to his utter amazement. There was no visible mechanical problem, and Joseph became confused and perplexed. He was in this state of confusion when a great voice “like the sound of many waters” called him three times. The voice was loud and clear and it told him that he would die if he refused to heed the divine call to go into the world and preach. Babalola did not want to listen to this voice and he responded like many of the Biblical prophets, who, when they were called out by Yahweh as prophets, did not normally yield to the first call. So, Babalola gave in only after he had received the assurance of divine guidance. 9. To answer the call, he had to resign his appointment with the Public Works Department. Mr. Fergusson, the head of his unit, tried to dissuade him from resigning but the young man was bent on going on the Lord’s mission. The same voice came to Joseph a second time asking him to fast for seven days. The experience led him to a personal retreat in the home of Joseph Fapounda a Christian leader in Christ Missionary Society in Ipetu Ijesa in Ogun State Nigeria.

Lagos Traffic Control - LASTMA, Federal Task Force Officials Clashes

fficials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and men of the Federal Task Force in Lagos clashed in various parts of the state over a disagreement on who was authorised to control traffic in the state. It was learnt that the task force, which began recruitment and training a few months ago, began operations fully on Tuesday to the chagrin of LASTMA. The task force officials were seen on many roads in the state including Ojota, Ikorodu Road and Toll Gate. It was learnt that in many of the locations where they were posted, the members of the task force and LASTMA officials had heated arguments that almost degenerated into fisticuffs The Commissioner for Information in the state, Lateef Ibirogba, said in a statement that it took the intervention of the police to restore normalcy. Ibirogba questioned the motive of the task force and alleged that they were a security threat. He said, “The police intercepted a strange group of usurpers posing as traffic officials on Lagos roads. Dressed in grey and black uniforms, the group, numbering about 35 invaded Lagos roads like Ojota, Toll Gate and Ikorodu Road at about 7am, causing confusion on the roads in their attempt to take over the job of LASTMA.” Copyright PUNCH.

LASU Lecturers Begin Strike begins

Lecturers of the Lagos State University, Ojo on Tuesday commenced an industrial action, which they said was “total, comprehensive and indefinite.” Addressing journalists in Lagos, the Academic Staff Union of Universities LASU Chairman, Dr. Adekunle Idris, said the failure of the university authorities to meet their demands prompted the strike. According to him, members of the union took the unanimous decision at their congress in Ojo. Idris said, “The congress, after exhaustive deliberation, concluded that core issues that are germane to survival of the university and career of our members have been neglected by the authorities.” The union’s National Executive Council, he added, authorised the chapter to embark on the strike at a meeting held at the University of Ibadan from May 14 to May 15. He added, “We declare that as from Tuesday, May 20, we, the academic staff of LASU, are withdrawing our services to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike. “It is a sad decision we are compelled to take and have taken it with every sense of responsibility.” He said the three core demands of the union yet to be met by the university authorities include the reversal of the high tuition and the repeal of the “No Vacancy, No Promotion’’ policy in the university. According to him, the implementation of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions Amendment) Act 2012, already operational in other universities, is also still pending at LASU. The union, he noted, had explored all avenues to dialogue with the authorities and the opinion leaders in the state in a bid to avert the strike but they did not yield results. “ASUU-LASU had used every opportunity to persuade the appropriate authorities to consider all our concerns in good time. “Regrettably, the union had no choice but to declare a trade dispute and at several times met the management, governing council and chancellor, but the issues remained unresolved. “We are at loss as to why the authorities have refused to frontally address these issues for over one year. “Our goals are noble and so we intend to pursue them to a logical conclusion,” Idris said. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that ASUU-LASU on March 24 had issued the management a 21-day ultimatum to meet its demands. The union also gave a 14-day ultimatum effective April 15, and another seven-day ultimatum on May 1. The union finally gave a three-day ultimatum on May 12, which expired May 14. But reacting to the development, the LASU Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kayode Sutton, told NAN that the authorities had not received an official letter from the union on the action. Sutton said, “Officially, the management has not been communicated about the strike declaration by ASUU; we await a letter to that effect.” He added that of the initial 21 demands by the union, there were only three demands that the authorities had yet to meet.

Jos Bomb Blasts Death Toll At Least 118 – NEMA

LAGOS (AFP) – At least 118 people were killed in a car bomb attack in the central Nigerian city of Jos, the country’s relief agency said on Tuesday, warning that the death toll could rise further. “The exact figure of the dead bodies recovered as of now is 118,” Mohammed Abdulsalam, coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the city, told AFP. He added that “more bodies may be in the debris” of buildings which collapsed due to the intensity of the blasts. Fifty-six people were injured in the twin blasts, said Abdulsalam. The military said that improvised explosive devices were hidden inside a truck and a minibus and went off within 20 minutes of each other. Chris Olakpe, the police commissioner of Plateau state of which Jos is the capital, told reporters earlier that 46 people were killed and 45 others were injured. He maintained later: “We are saying 46. That’s the number we have in the morgues. But we are not ruling out more bodies.” Plateau state lies in the so-called Middle Belt of Nigeria, where the largely Christian south meets the mainly Muslim north, and has been the scene of long-standing ethnic and sectarian conflict for years. It has also been hit by Boko Haram militants, who have been waging an insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast since 2009. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/05/jos-bomb-blasts-death-toll-least-118-nema/

Boko haram Threatens again to cause more disaster

Boko Haram men have threatened to kill the school girls they abducted in the early hours of April 15th if the search for them continues. This is after some Borno women under the auspices of BAOBAB Women’s Right said they are planning to storm the Sambisa forest where the abducted girls are believed to be held.
The women said since efforts by the military to rescue the girls haven’t worked so far, it was time for them to take matters into their hands as concerned mothers.
The Spokesperson for the group, Professor Hauwa Biu, told newsmen:-
“We are ready to go into the forest and search for the girls. In fact, we are prepared to risk our lives and get up to Boko Haram camp and appeal to them to release the children to us so that they can re unite with their parents. There is nothing extraordinary in our quest to enter the dangerous forest. We learnt that some men in Chibok had earlier embarked on such mission, which later turned out to be fruitless. We felt that as mothers, we are in a better position to have the sympathy and concern over the fate of the missing girls. Our target is not to fight the abductors, but we want to beg them to release the girls in the name of the God that we all worship.”
