The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge. The sources told SaharaReporters that Mr. Sanusi was to be arrested at his private home on Sunday night after his appointment was announced by the Kano State Governor. It would be recalled that the presidency embarked on several frantic measures to frustrate the former CBN governor’s emergence as Emir, including the premature congratulations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to one of the candidates before the choice was announced. Since becoming Emir, Mr. Sanusi has been inside the Kano State governor’s lodge, receiving visitors and undertaking traditional rites. The source also told SaharaReporters that some notable northern leaders have already warned President Jonathan to avoid such a reckless action so as to avoid setting fire to the already volatile situation in the city of Kano. It is not known if President Jonathan is favoring back channel dialogue aimed at resolving the mess. According to the state government, it would now reduce the fees between 34 per cent and 60 per cent across the different faculties and courses. This is coming few days after some students of the institution invaded the governor’s office to register their anger over the “high school fees” with a demand that the fee be reduced considerably. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Chief Fatai Olukoga, on Wednesday at a briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, said after a deliberation on the recommendations of the committee, the government agreed to a downward review of the fees payable by students. He said, “Government agrees that with the subsidised tuition fees and appropriate moderation of incidental fees, a reduction ranging from 34 per cent to 60 per cent is possible across the different faculties and courses. “Government has therefore approved the reductions and, in accordance with the law setting up the university, forwarded its approval to the institution’s Governing Council for implementation. He was the first prophet God used to lead a great revival in Nigeria after the raising of a 10 years old boy in 1930. 2. He was the first General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, a church that metamorphosed from a prayer group popularly called Egbe Aladura in Nigeria. 3. The Aladura Movement nucleated at Ijebu-Ode in 1918. Babalola was endowed with healing powers. 4. Joseph Ayodele Babalola was born of Yoruba parents, David Rotimi and Madam Marta Talabi on April 25, 1904 who belonged to the Anglican Church. 5. The family lived at Odo-Owa, a small town about ninety kilometres from Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria. His father was the Ba ba Ijo (“church father”) of the C.M.S. Church at Odo-Owa. 6. On January 18, 1914, young Babalola was taken by his brother M. 0. Rotimi, a Sunday school teacher in the C.M.S. Church at Ilofa, who later took him to Osogbo. 7. Babalola started school at Ilofa and got as far as standard five at All Saints’ School, Osogbo. However, he quit school when he decided to learn a trade and became a motor mechanic apprentice. Again, he did not continue long in this vocation before joining the Public Works Department (PWD). He was among the road workers who constructed the road from Igbara-Oke to Ilesa, working as a steam roller driver. 8. Babalola’s was a specific and personal call. Babalola’s strange experience started on the night of September 25th, 1928 when he suddenly became restless and could not sleep. This went on for a week and he had no inkling of the causes of such a strange experience. The climax came one day when he was, as usual, working on the Ilesa-Igbara-Oke road. Suddenly the steam roller’s engine stopped to his utter amazement. There was no visible mechanical problem, and Joseph became confused and perplexed. He was in this state of confusion when a great voice “like the sound of many waters” called him three times. The voice was loud and clear and it told him that he would die if he refused to heed the divine call to go into the world and preach. Babalola did not want to listen to this voice and he responded like many of the Biblical prophets, who, when they were called out by Yahweh as prophets, did not normally yield to the first call. So, Babalola gave in only after he had received the assurance of divine guidance. 9. To answer the call, he had to resign his appointment with the Public Works Department. Mr. Fergusson, the head of his unit, tried to dissuade him from resigning but the young man was bent on going on the Lord’s mission. The same voice came to Joseph a second time asking him to fast for seven days. The experience led him to a personal retreat in the home of Joseph Fapounda a Christian leader in Christ Missionary Society in Ipetu Ijesa in Ogun State Nigeria.

Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta representing Niger East Senatorial District is dead, according to Leadership newspaper. He was 65. Senator Kuta was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was born on 16 April, 1949 and was elected Senator for the Niger East constituency of Niger State, Nigeria, taking office on 29 May 2007. Kuta gained a BA in History, Graduate Certificate in Education and Post graduate Diploma in Public Administration. In 1983, he was elected to the Niger State House of Assembly, where he became minority whip. In 1993, he was elected to the Federal House of Representatives and was appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business. He was appointed National Deputy Director of Administration at the PDP Headquarters, and Secretary to the Government of Niger State. Kuta won the 2007 PDP primary election for Niger East, defeating his brother, Ibrahim Kuta. President Goodluck Jonathan has strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Jos, Plateau state, which led to the loss of many lives. A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati Tuesday said the president described the perpetrators of “this tragic assault on human freedom as cruel and evil”. According to Dr Abati, the president has directed all relevant agencies to mobilise support and relief efforts in aid of the victims. The presidential Spokesmand said President Jonathan has also assured all Nigerians that government remain fully committed to winning the war against terror, and this administration will not be cowed by the atrocities of enemies of human progress and civilization. Lagos Traffic Control - LASTMA, Federal Task Force Officials Clashes

fficials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and men of the Federal Task Force in Lagos clashed in various parts of the state over a disagreement on who was authorised to control traffic in the state. It was learnt that the task force, which began recruitment and training a few months ago, began operations fully on Tuesday to the chagrin of LASTMA. The task force officials were seen on many roads in the state including Ojota, Ikorodu Road and Toll Gate. It was learnt that in many of the locations where they were posted, the members of the task force and LASTMA officials had heated arguments that almost degenerated into fisticuffs The Commissioner for Information in the state, Lateef Ibirogba, said in a statement that it took the intervention of the police to restore normalcy. Ibirogba questioned the motive of the task force and alleged that they were a security threat. He said, “The police intercepted a strange group of usurpers posing as traffic officials on Lagos roads. Dressed in grey and black uniforms, the group, numbering about 35 invaded Lagos roads like Ojota, Toll Gate and Ikorodu Road at about 7am, causing confusion on the roads in their attempt to take over the job of LASTMA.” Copyright PUNCH.
