Album Review: WizKid – Superstar

WIZKID - SUPERSTAR …We are all superstars in our own rights, maybe that is why when I heard Wizkid’s album was to be named Superstar I immediately thought he copied Iceprince who had released his second single called “Superstar”. Kel released a single called SuperWoman and 2shotz also released one called Superman Dead… It was only normal for a music head to ask questions. Back to Superstar by Wizkid, the album has 16 songs, it features some really talented producers like E-Kelly, Samklef, DJ Klem of knighthouse, etc. It is easy to say you can dance to every song on the album.



Wizkid has grown from when we first listened to him on MI Abaga’s “Fast Money Fast cars”. His first couple of singles divided music listeners into two distinct groups, The Fans and The Haters. Wizkid is an artiste you can barely sit on the fence when it comes to his music and life generally (twitter activity). His new album will definitely broaden this divide.





ALBUM REVIEW


The first 3 tracks: 1) Say my name 2) No lele 3) Scatter the floor; these songs will definitely get you to shake your head and maybe you will find yourself dancing to the beats. The producers went in on all the beats and it is fair to say it is a good effort. As for the second song “No Lele”, it is a typical Wizkid song. By typical it means his rhythmic style but you still find yourself loving the song.



E ye ye ye is something he “chants” at the start of track 4 and 5 (Pakurumo and Slow Whine ft. Banky W)… at this point a typical non Wizkid fan may start getting tired of the album. SKIP to Track 6 “Love My Baby”… This is a nice song for RnB lovers and people who love lyrics. To be honest we hardly listen to his repetitive words in his songs but this one you will find yourself listening to the words.



Other tracks features include “For Me ft Wande Coal”. I’ve always said Wizkid has been influenced majorly by Wande Coal and so this collaboration was definitely going to happen. The only person missing on the song is Brymo because they all kinda sound alike. I wasn’t so impressed by the song as it dint really stand out and Wande Sounded so much like Wizkid that if his name was not mentioned I would have thought it was Wizkid. People will still hype and dance to the song regardless.



Another song to look out for is “Wad Up ft D’Prince“. It is hard not to love D’Prince and his playful nature on the song will make you smile especially as he uses lines from songs or rhymes we know. You will be the judge.



In conclusion, the album Superstar by Wizkid is a feel good album which you will definitely want to have in your car. It is better than a lot of albums that have been released in the last two years and for a debut album Wizkid has the thumbs up.
